The Forces Challenge

Is a category aimed to get the team spirit up and riding!

The Forces Challenge is aimed at mountain bikers who work within the ‘forces’ industry = Police, Fire Department, SAS, Army, Navy, Air Force etc. They will compete in teams of four completing the D40km race. The team with the lowest combined time will win the D100 Forces Challenge Perpetual Trophy.

Notes for entry into the forces challenge:

  • All team members must work for the same organisation, however they do not need to work in the same department. E.g.  the team could be made up of administration staff, field officers and management.
  • Teams can be made up of males, females or a combination.
  • Teams may have one DNF rider and still qualify for the overall prize; the DNF rider will be given a time of 4hrs and a DNF marked next to their name.

Individual participants within each team may, if they wish, complete the 100km Classic. To do so, those individuals will be required to pay a ‘top up’ fee (by adding it to their online registration). Individuals who do nominate to ride the 100km will be asked to start in the 100km start group (to allow maximum time to complete the full course) – the 40km split time will go toward the team time also, however due to course changes that occurred in 2015 the 40km loop is the second loop that riders will complete this year. This means that you will have completed 60km before continuing on to do the 40km loop which is the loop time that goes towards the Forces Challenge.

The D40km course is a great challenge for those who are enthusiastic about mountain biking. Going through some great single track created especially for the event as well as going through the famous Marrinup Loop. The course is well signed and great support is available along the way. A full course description will be available closer to the event.

The D40km is a self seeded start line. If you are a strong rider, move to the front of the starting grid; if you are going through your paces/casually riding, please remain at the back of the pack.

Start Times – 12.00noon

Due to the event being part of the 2017 National Cross Country Marathon Series, event organisers have had to change starting times to ensure that no congestion occurs out on course for any lead riders; therefore the D40km event will start at a later time this year.

There is one cut off for the D40km event.

4.15pm – Participants must reach the entry of Marrinup Loop by this time to continue.

A motorcyclist will follow the last 40km participant back to the finish line.

There will be no aid stations on the D40km course. Participants must carry enough water and supplies to make it to back to the finish line.

To participate in the D40km, participants must be 15 years or older as at 31/12/2017 in line with the MTBA age classification date. Riders younger than this may only ride by special invitation or with special permission (strict criteria to be met).
